Medieval Ancestors (April)

Immersed in the Middle Ages right now, studying for my exam.  Sprinkling in some fun reading about my ancestors who made it to Wikipedia.  ;-)  My paternal grandmother's name is Veazey.

Ivo de Vesci http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivo_de_Vesci  First de Vesci at Alnwick

Alnwick  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alnwick_Castle  The Vescis (Veazeys)  used to own the castle.  Harry Potter was filmed there and the "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster was discovered in a local bookstore.

Eustace de Vesci http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eustace_de_Vesci   Fought in the Crusades with Richard the Lionheart, one of the barons who forced naughty King John to sign the Magna Carta, and rather involved with King John's excommunication by Pope Innocent III.  Also, King John was quite nasty with Eustace's wife and attempted to seduce her.  Eustace was killed while fighting to support Louis, the French dauphin and claimant to English Throne.  Also involved in some Scottish and Irish affairs.

William de Vesci  d. 1297 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_de_Vesci_%28d.1297%29 Involved in many political affairs and wars, most importantly was competitor for the crown of Scotland.

William de Vesci of Kildare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_de_Vescy_of_Kildare  Died fighting with the English at Bannockburn

John de Vesci http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_de_Vesci Summoned to the first directly elected English parliment, secretary and counselor to King Edward I, served in the 9th Crusade with and given as hostage by the same king to King James of Aragon.  John and his wife were close to Queen Eleanor and  Edward II as well.
